Fuego volcano (Guatemala): elevated explosive activity continues

Current seismic signal at Fuego (FG3 station, INSIVUMEH)
Activity remains elevated. The volcano observatory reports 4-5 explosions per hour, often strong with ash plumes rising more than 1 km above the crater and drifting 10-12 km.
Incandescent material is seen ejected to 100-150 m above the crater. Shock waves rattle windows and roofs of homes near the volcano and weak ashfall occurred in the town of Yepocapa and the village Ojo de Agua.

A small paroxysm occurred at the volcano during the night between Wed-Thu, INSIVUMEH reports in a special bulletin. Activity, which generally had been elevated over the past weeks, increased during the evening of 10 Dec and towards a phase of continuous lava fountaining of 100-150 m height. Explosive activity has decreased a bit and is now at average levels. The observatory reported 28 explosions of small to medium size during 24 hours (compared to 6-8 per hour at the end of Nov), and ash plumes rising up to 1000 m above the crater.

Explosive activity has been relatively high recently with up to 6-8 explosions per hour. Some of them covered the whole upper cone with incandescent bombs and their shock waves are reported to be felt or heard in up to 30 km distance. Ash plumes rose to up to 5 km altitude, i.e. 1,400 m above the crater. ...
