Karangetang volcano (Siau Island, Indonesia): new eruption

A new eruption that started already on 23 April has been producing lava flows from the summit vent. During the past days, this activity has increased.
MODIS hot spots at Karangetang during the past 7 days (MODVOLC, Univ. Hawaii)
A number of people have been evacuated from areas at less than 3 km distance from the volcano. The main hazard are pyroclastic flows that the volcano often generates when activity is elevated.
VSI keeps the volcano at alert level 3 (out of 4), at which it has been since 3 Sep 2013.
