Map of Kilauea's new lava flow headed SE (map: HVO)
The new active lava flow headed to the southeast from Puʻu ʻŌʻō continues to advance and spread laterally. On 28 July it had reached a length of 6.9 km (4.3 mi) from the vent and reached the Pulama pali in the western area of the abandoned Royal Gardens subdivision. Read more... Lees alle

Skylight (view onto the flowing lava inside a lava tube) on the east breakout on Kilauea volcano. It's about 6 m (20 ft) wide. (image: HVO)
The two new lava flows from Puʻu ʻŌʻō crater which emerged as surface breakouts from the partially blocked old lava tube on 24 May continue to be active, but have only advanced a bit during the past days. Read more... Lees alle

The new lava flows from Kilauea on 29 May (bigislandvideonews.com)
The new surface lava flows from the two breakouts north and northeast of Pu'u 'O'o vent on the eastern rift zone remain active. They form broad, branching channels that have been gradually enlarging the two new pahoehoe lava flow fields NW/W and SE of the cone. Read more... Lees alle

Map of the new lava flows from the 24 May breakouts
Early in the morning of 24 May (at 06:50 local time), a sudden surge in lava supply caused the main lava tube carrying the lava underground away from Pu'u 'O'o to rupture. This resulted in two so-called surface lava breakouts located about 500 m N and NE from the cone, feeding two new large surface lava flows. Read more... Lees alle

Thermal image of the lava overflow inside Kilauea's Pu'u 'O'o crater yesterday morning
The activity of the volcano remains essentially unchanged. Rising magma levels under the east rift zone briefly caused an overflow of lava that erupted from a spatter cone within the southern part of the Puʻu ʻŌʻō crater. Read more... Lees alle

Lava flow field as of 12 Feb 2016 (HVO / USGS)
No significant changes in activity have occurred in the ongoing eruption of Kilauea. In recent weeks, lava from Pu'u 'O'o continued to aliment lava tubes feeding the large pahoehoe flow field to the NE. Read more...
