It has now been 66 days since lava was last at the surface at Kilauea. That is the longest gap since the start of the eruption in 1983- there were 65 days between Episode 2 and 3- and the longest since the 4 months between the two 1982 eruptions. And with no signs of imminent renewal, it seems very likely that the current gap will reach the 90 day mark on December 5- which means the eruptive period that started in 1983 has come to end. When eruptive activity does eventually return, it will be an entirely new eruption. [meer...]

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has lowered the Aviation Color Code and Alert Level for Kilauea to YELLOW/ADVISORY, stating that the likelihood of renewed eruptive activity in the near-future is unlikely. [meer...]

Activity at Kilauea remains at very low levels, with no eruptions anywhere on the volcano, as has been the case since early September. ... [meer...]

As the eruption of lava from Fissure 8 continues with little changes, but rather an increase as observed last evening, lateral outbreaks from the lower parts of the lava channel have been feeding a broad flow front that is now advancing southwest and threatens to inundate the Pohoiki boat ramp in Isaac Hale Park. [meer...]
The fissure 8 channel continues to carry lava toward the coast on the west side of Kapoho Crater (vegetated cone, far left). Northwest of this cone, overflows (lower left) of the channel occurred overnight, but lava was confined to the existing flow field and did not threaten any homes or structures. Tuesday, Jul 24, 2018
During the past weeks, the lower east rift zone eruption has been continuing without really significant changes: around the main vent (fissure #8), a large cinder has been built by the continuous fountaining during the first weeks), and magma erupted from there has been flowing through a now well-established perched wide channel towards the new ocean entry at Kaphoho, where new land is being formed. ...
