Manam volcano (Papua New Guinea): strong SO2 plume detected
Wednesday Mar 20, 2013 17:26 PM | DOOR: T
SO2 plume from Manam (NOAA)
An important SO2 plume was detected on today's satellite image, suggesting a phase of increased lava emission. No ash plume have been alerted of (so far).
Thursday, Mar 14, 2013
A volcanic ash plume was observed on satellite images at 20,000 ft (6 km) altitude extending 80 nautical miles to the ESE earlier today (VAAC Darwin). This suggest a moderately large vulcanian explosion has taken place at the volcano.
Thursday, Mar 14, 2013
RVO reported that on 1 March Manam's main and southern craters emitted small amounts of diffuse white vapor. On 4 and 7 March intermittent gray ash plumes rose 300 m, above the cloud cover. (Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report)
Tuesday, Feb 19, 2013
On 16 February an ash plume rose to an altitude of 3.4 km (11,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted over 35 km NW.
Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013
A large explosion occurred yesterday afternoon from the volcano. VAAC Darwin reported an ash plume rising to 33,000 ft (10 km) altitude.
Wednesday, Jan 30, 2013
Ash emissions / explosive activity continues. Another ash plume extending 30 nautical miles to the NE was reported last night. Estimated altitude was 14,000 ft (4.3 km) (VAAC Darwin).
