Background
Cerro Masahuat is an eroded Pleistocene stratovolcano that lies at the NW corner of a major bend in the Río Lempa SE of Lake Guija. The Río Lempa surrounds Cerro Masahuat on all but the SE side and has cut a gorge through volcanic rocks of similar age to Masahuat that cover a broad area across the river to the north, east of Lake Guija.---
