Zeer explosieve. Grote Pliniaanse uitbarsting elke paar 1000 van jaar (de laatsten op ongeveer 1000 BP en BP 2000), soms met geassocieerd flank ineenstorting. Groei van lavakoepels, pyroclastische stromen.

Merapi volcano (Central Java, Indonesia), new eruption

Following weeks of increasing seismicity, inflation and increased temperatures at the summit lava dome, Merapi started to erupted with 3 ash explosions the first larger eruptions today 26 October 2010. Ash reached 1.5 km height (4,500 ft) above the crater and according to news reports, one baby died from inhaling ash.
Authorities have begun to evacuate around 10,000 people living in the slopes around the volcano.
Merapi is one of Indonesia's most active and dangerous volcanoes, notorious for producing deadly avalanches of hot rock and gas (pyroclastic flows). Its last eruption in 2006 killed two people cought in such an avalanche.
