Ingeominas and Colombian authorities are worried about a possible/likely impending eruption of Nevado del Huila.

Between 7 and 9 November, Ingeominas recorded more than 3000 seismic events under the volcano and an overflight showed new fumaroles and increased degassing.
Civil protection estimates that more than 1000 families living in the valleys of the rivers Símbola and Páez, considered to be the highest risk zones due to the hazard of meltwater floods triggered by an eruption. A catastrophic meltwater flood from an eruption of Nevado del Ruiz volcano tragically took the lives of 25,000 people in 1985.
