Pacaya volcano (Guatemala) activity update
Tuesday Oct 02, 2012 10:05 AM | DOOR: T
Current seismic signal from PCG station (INSIVUMEH)
A white mainly steam plume drifts south-west. The seismic station PCG records volcanic earthquakes and tremor (internal vibration) as well as some superficial volcanic events.
Thursday, Sep 27, 2012
Only steaming is observed at the fumaroles, but there is a lot of seismic activity (small quakes, and long-period events) suggesting fluid movements inside the volcano.
Tuesday, Sep 18, 2012
A white steam plume rises from the crater and there is continuing elevated seismic activity with tremor pulses and some shallow quakes. Otherwise, the volcano remains calm.
Thursday, Sep 13, 2012
The strong steaming at Pacaya observed a few days ago has declined back to normal levels (about 100 m plume). Seismic activity remains slightly elevated with some quakes and tremor pulses apparent.
Tuesday, Sep 11, 2012
The activity of the steam plume (which had been on average of 50-100 m height) has increased drastically, INSIVUMEH reports, and is now 600 m tall. A possibility is that this is related to increased groundwater infiltration. There are no sounds or rumblings. The seismic activity seems to be increased as well.
Monday, Sep 10, 2012
A larger number of small quakes is visible on today's seismic recording from Pacaya, but there is no surface activity at the volcano.
