Weak eruptive activity has been observed at the volcano in the form of intense steaming and small ash emissions and the aviation color code was raised to orange yesterday.

Most likely, the summit crater vent is currently producing strombolian-type activity, possibly along with the effusion of lava flows. Seismic activity has been elevated.
According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO), "vigorous steam degassing was observed in web camera images from Cold Bay (35 miles or 60 km SW) and Black Hills (20 miles or 35 km NNE) this morning. Satellite observations and pilot reports indicate minor amounts of ash associated with the steam cloud at an altitude of less than 15,000 ft (4.5 km) above sea level."
"Activity is currently at relatively low levels. An increase in eruptive activity is possible and could occur with little or no warning. AVO will continue to monitor the volcano closely."

Seismic activity of the volcano has increased again during the past 48 hours. Satellite data show at least some small ash emissions have taken place although the Alaska Volcano Observatory does not speak of a new eruption taking place (such ash emissions could be related to collapses in the crater etc without new magma erupting).
