Anak Krakatau uitbarsting juli 2009: vulkanische explosies

Na een 36 uur pauze in activiteit tussen de avond van 30 juni en de ochtend van 2 juli, Anak Krakatau herbegonnen met krachtige vulkanische explosies. De grootste van deze explosies werden voorafgegaan door een inflatie en schudden van de actieve kegel of lava-dome, triggering rock-dia's uit haar flanken, totdat de stekker gaf manier in gigantische explosies uitwerpen van een rapdly uit te breiden massa van gloeiende lava, solid rotsen, en grote hoeveelheden ash, vormen rookpluimen maximaal 2 km hoogten.
