Stromboli: lavastroom in oktober 2014

An effusive eruption began on Stromboli on 7 August 2014 and continued into Oct. After the first 5-10 days, lava flows no longer reached the sea, but produced varying channels of active lava flows on the upper parts of the slope. Constant rockfalls from these flows provided a fascinating view especially at night. The following photos were taken during our recent tour to Stromboli and Etna from 5-13 Oct 2014.
View onto the upper half of the Sciara del Fuoco on 7 Oct afternoon. The lava flow is barely visible, mostly due to the dust stirred up from blocks detaching from its fronts. (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)
