Reventador volcano, Ecuador: news & activity updates
Reventador volcano (Ecuador): activity summary 7-13 Nov - growing lava dome and lava flows
Thursday Nov 15, 2012 06:26 AM | DOOR: T
Current seismic signal (CONE station) showing tremor and activity from rockfalls and small quakes (IG)
A new phase of activity started on 9 November, characterized by lava flows from the crater, steam plumes, and thermal anomalies detected in satellite images.
Corresponding tremor signal (CONE station) (IG)
The lava flows traveled as far as 2 km down the N and S flanks, and steam plumes rose 200-500 m above the crater. Field visits by volcanologists in recent months confirmed that the lava dome in the crater had continued to grow above the rim, becoming the highest point of the volcano. Blocks from the lava dome and lava-flow fronts rolled down the flanks.
IG noted that during 3-4 November emissions increased; a steam-and-ash plume rose 3 km above the crater. The seismic network detected an increase in the magnitude of volcanic tremor. Steam-and-gas plumes contained ash within the previous few days.

... [meer...]

Eruptive activity probably continues at Reventador. During a rare window of clear weather, a steam column was seen rising 3 km from the crater on 3 Oct. The seismogram shows intense activity as well. [meer...]
Reventador volcano (Ecuador) activity update: growing lava dome, occasional explosions, strong steaming
Sunday, Oct 21, 2012
The lava dome is growing in the summit crater and the volcano produces a significant steam plume and occasional explosions, although these are not often seen as the volcano is usually in clouds. ... [meer...]
