Powerful eruptionof Sakurajima on 21 Oct, producing a plume that reached 18,000 ft
A phase of strong explosions during 20-21 Oct culminated with an eruption on 21 Oct that produced an ash plume rising to 18,000 ft (5.4 km) altitude (VAAC Tokyo).
Since then, the volcano has calmed down and had only smaller explosions.
