Volcano news: Santa Maria (Guatemala)

Tue, 10 Dec 2013, 15:34
Explosion at Santiaguuito this morning
The observatory reports little changes: an explosion occurred with an ash plume of 900 m height, and avalanches continue to descend from the active block lava flows.
Mon, 9 Dec 2013, 15:35
No significant changes in activity occurred, which consists of sporadic small ash explosions and constant avalanches from the active block lava flows descending on the sides of the dome.
Thu, 5 Dec 2013, 09:47
Explosive and effusive activity have continued with little variation. Explosions sent ash plumes up to 700 m above the crater, and block lava effusion continues mainly at the eastern side of the Caliente dome where weak to moderate constant avalanches occur.
Sat, 30 Nov 2013, 08:21
Santiaguito's Caliente lava dome yesterday morning (INSIVUMEH)
Activity has been mainly effusive during the past days; no or few explosions occurred yesterday. The volcano observatory reports abundant avalanches from the active lava flows mainly on the NE side of the Caliente lava dome.
Tue, 26 Nov 2013, 17:44
Santiaguito volcano this morning (INSIVUMEH)
The INSIVUMEH observatory reports weak to moderate explosions with ash plumes up to 700 m height and constant block avalanches from the rims of the Caliente lava dome, sign that effusive activity has increased somewhat.
Sun, 24 Nov 2013, 09:40
No significant changes in activity occurred. Explosions generate ash plumes as high as 900 m above the dome and effusive activity continues to produce small lava avalanches mainly from the NE flank of the dome. A felt earthquake occurred yesterday night at 00:32 local time.
Fri, 22 Nov 2013, 09:16
Explosion at Santiaguuito yesterday morning
A phreatomagmatic (water-magma interaction driven) explosion yesterday morning produced a plume of fine ash rising to 3.2 km altitude (700 m above the lava dome) and drifted SE, causing ash fall in Finca La Florida.
Wed, 20 Nov 2013, 06:44
No significant changes in activity have occurred over the past days. INSIVUMEH reports weak explosions and continuing incandescent block avalanches from the active lava flow on the NE side of the Caliente dome.
Wed, 13 Nov 2013, 16:18
Santiaguito this morning with ash from block avalanches on the eastern flank
Activity has been elevated. The effusion rate of the Caliente dome is high enough to produce constant block avalanches from the eastern rim. Explosive activity has been weak with ash plumes reaching 500-700 m height drifting into southerly directions.
Sun, 3 Nov 2013, 09:14
Santiaguito lava dome yesterday morning (INSIVUMEH webcam)
In recent days the eruptive activity has increased, in particular towards more effusive activity. The Caliente lava dome produced a higher rate of lava extrusion at the edges of the dome and explosions at a rate of approx. one per hour with ash plumes of up to 500 m drifting in westerly directions. ...meer
