Shiveluch volcano (Kamchatka) activity update: lava flow on NE side of lava dome, strong steaming, occasional explosions

Friday Aug 24, 2012 10:05 AM | DOOR: T

Explosive-extrusive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues KVERT writes although there are no reports of larger recent eruptions.
According to visual and satellite data, a viscous lava flow continues to effuse on the north-eastern flank of the lava dome. Strong and moderate fumarolic activity and incandescence of the dome summit and of hot avalanches accompany this process. Satellite data showed a thermal anomaly over the lava dome all week.
