Shiveluch volcano (Kamchatka), eruption news: ash plumes

On 31 July-7 August seismic activity from Shiveluch was above background levels. There was a large daily thermal anomaly over the lava dome. Video camera data shows, that ash plumes rose to an altitude of 4 km on 2 August. The Level of Concern Color Code remained at Orange.

A strong explosive eruption took place at Sheveluch volcano on May 1st, 2009, sending an ash cloud to 5 km above the volcano. The eruption followed a week of heightened seismicity and might be the start of a stronger eruptive phase.

On 21-28 February there were eruptions reported that produced ash plumes and also it was indicatedt that the lava dome is still growing.

It was reported that there was higher seismic activity at Shiveluch during the time of 2-9 January and ash plumes rose to an altitude of 8.8 km. There was also a daily thermal anomaly on the lava dome and ash plumes, what is a sign of lava dome growing.

The seismic activity at Shiveluch was above background levels during 6-14 November. Ash plumes rose to an altitude of 6.8 km and hot avalanches descended the lava dome on 6 November producing ash plumes that rose to an altitude of 4 km. There was a daily thermal anomaly on the lava dome and the Level of Concern Color Code remained at Orange.

There are still strong eruptions on the crater summit that produce ash avalances, pyroclastic flows and ash plumes. The lava dome is growing.
