Incandescent rockfalls from Shiveluch's active lava dome this evening
Activity at the volcano seems to be increasing again. Constant glow and incandescent rockfalls at the active lava dome are visible on webcam imagery.
Based on satellite data, an eruption (explosion or pyroclastic flow) was reported this morning to have produced an ash plume that rose to 24,000 ft (7.3 km) altitude and drifted west.

The volcano continues to slowly extrude viscous lava at its dome, which sometimes results in smaller or larger avalanches as well as explosions, both producing ash plumes. Over the past weeks, this activity has been a bit lower than previously.

The volcano's activity seems to have picked up a bit compared to recent weeks. A partial collapse of the active dome generated a pyroclastic flow that traveled several km to the south, accompanied by an ash plume that rose to 4-4.5 km altitude and drifted east.

Activity has not changed significantly over the past weeks. Slow extrusion of viscous lava continues and triggers occasional small to moderate incandescent avalanches, mainly through the eastern corridor of the volcano's horse-shoe shaped landslide caldera where the dome is located. ...
