Shiveluch volcano (Kamchatka): small to moderate explosions from lava dome

Monday Oct 10, 2016 18:10 PM | DOOR: T

Ash plume from an explosion at Shiveluch this morning (Kamchatka time)
Ash plume from an explosion at Shiveluch this morning (Kamchatka time)
The lava dome remains active and activity has not changed significantly after the major collapse event 3 weeks ago. Glowing rockfalls and occasional block and ash pyroclastic flows descend the western canyon as result of instabilities and continued growth.
At the same time, explosions of small to moderate size have become more frequent, too, and been occurring at rates of 1-2 per day recently.
The Aviation Color Code of the volcano remains at Orange.
