The eruption continues with an active viscous lava flow on the upper western flank. Occasional explosions such as this morning produce ash plume that rise to 3-4 km altitude, i.e. 1.5-2 km above the volcano.
Sunday, Feb 08, 2015
Activity remains elevated. An explosion produced an ash plume to 10,000 ft (3 km) altitude this morning.
Saturday, Feb 07, 2015
The eruption continues at the volcano. It feeds a viscous lava flow about 500 m long on the volcano's upper western flank. ...
Thursday, Feb 05, 2015
The volcano remains active, producing explosions and incandescent rockfalls as our correspondant Andi reported. On 2 February, an ash plume from Soputan rose to an altitude of 6.1 km (20,000 ft) a.s.l.
Wednesday, Jan 21, 2015
The eruption of the volcano continues. The new lava flow seems to have descended almost to the base of the summit cone, accompanied by abundant glowing rockfalls. Intermittent explosions, although decreasing in intensity during the past 2 days, still produce ash emissions that reach 3-4 km altitude. ...

A viscous lava flow lobe is active on the western flank of the summit cone. Spectacular incandescent rockfalls accompany this effusive activity. ...
The small Soputan stratovolcano on the southern rim of the Quaternary Tondano caldera on the northern arm of Sulawesi Island is one of Sulawesi's most active volcanoes. The youthful, largely unvegetated volcano rises to 1784 m and is located SW of Sempu volcano. It was constructed at the southern end of a SSW-NNE trending line of vents. During historical time the locus of eruptions has included both the summit crater and Aeseput, a prominent NE-flank vent that formed in 1906 and was the source of intermittent major lava flows until 1924.
