Stromboli volcano (Eolian Islands, Italy): new lava flow on Sciara del Fuoco

A new lava flow has appeared at the volcano. Since today, lava started to overflow from the vents in the northeastern crater area and the new flow is now slowly advancing in the upper Sciara del Fuoco.

Seismic activity is elevated. This event comes after a period of gradually increased strombolian activity at the craters in recent weeks, with increasingly high levels of the magma column.
Residents from the islands reported frequent detonation waves that rattle doors and windows.

When observed yesterday evening during our ongoing tour to Italy's volcanoes, activity at the crater of the volcano was at low to moderate levels.
