Tolbachik volcano: eruption updates & news
Tolbachik volcano (Kamchatka) activity update
Wednesday Jan 22, 2014 08:31 AM | DOOR: T
Although no new eruptive activity has been recorded in the past months, the volcano continues to be at Aviation Color Code yellow. Moderate seismic activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a weak thermal anomaly over the northern area of Tolbachinsky Dol. (KVERT)
Thursday, Jan 02, 2014
A thermal anomaly is still visible over the northern area of Tolbachinsky Dol. KVERT reports weak seismic activity of the volcano.
Tuesday, Oct 01, 2013
No seismic or surface eruptive activity has been recorded recently. The eruption can probably by now be regarded to be over, but KVERT maintains Aviation Color Code yellow.
Friday, Sep 06, 2013
The eruption is probably ending. KVERT reported only weak seismicity and incandescence, accompanied by moderate steaming/degassing, and a small remaining thermal anomaly on satellite data.
Monday, Sep 02, 2013
Although believed to have more or less stopped a week ago, it seems that weak eruptive has continued and regained some strength again now. Weak tremor has reappeared and incandescence could be seen again at the active vent at Tolbachinsky Dol at night. Tourists could observe strombolian activity and effusion of lava into the tube system on 30 August.
Wednesday, Aug 28, 2013
The eruption seems to be coming to an end. Seismic activity dropped from still moderately high levels (2.4 mcm/s) to very low (0.12 mcm/s) on 24 Aug, and the effusion of lava has stopped. No incandescence was spotted in the area of the vent during the past days. The Aviation Color Code was lowered to yellow.

Volcanic crisis at Sakurajima - updates
: A strong earthquake swarm and increased inflation were detected in August 2015 and triggered authorities to raise the alert level, as volcanologists think that a larger eruption could follow. News and updates on the events can be found on this page.
Photos from Armenia
: Armenia is a very photogenic country with a large variety of landscapes showing some very spectacular geology, century-old monasteries and castles, and much more.
Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres
: Much current eruption news is provided by the 9 Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres (VAAC) distributed around the globe. The VAACs provide a vital service for aviation safety.
