The remote Gaua volcano remains very active. Wellington VAAC monitors ash plumes often rising to 3 km (10,1000 ft) a.s.l.
The eruption of Gaua volcano (located in the far north end of the archipel of Vanuatu) is increasing and the situation is worsening for the inhabitants of the island, news articles report. As plumes reach 10,000 ft (3000m) elevation and the fresh ash contaminates water and food supplies on the island, promting authorities to prepare for an evacuation of about 3000 people from the island if the situation continues or gets worse. ...
