Map of today's active volcanoes
Manam (Papua New Guinea)
Landsat 8 image of Manam volcano from 6 June this year (image: NASA; annotations: Culture Volcan)
: Mild eruptive activity likely continues at the volcano. Satellite images show a thermal hot spot at the summit crater and occasionally, during clear weather, strong emissions of sulfur dioxide gas.
Due to the lack of current field observations, no detailed information about the nature of the activity (if any) is currently available. The most likely situation is that there are mild strombolian eruptions and/or a growing lava dome at the summit crater. Manam is one of the region's most active volcano.
Etna (Sicily, Italy)
: Etna has remained calm at the surface since the most recent eruptive phase (violent strombolian activity from the NE and Voragine summit craters) ended on 26 May. ... Lees alle
: Ash emissions have increased at the volcano. The local observatory reported a plume of approx. 800 m rising from the summit vent and drifting west this morning. ... Lees alle
: The effusion of a lava flow on the southeastern flank of the volcano continues with little changes. A second flow branch has recently made its appearance. ... Lees alle
Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan)
: The volcano has been very calm recently. After 2 weeks with no recorded explosions, a few relatively small ones occurred yesterday and today, producing ash plumes that rose to 7-8,000 ft (2-2.5 km) altitude. ... Lees alle
Bromo (East Java, Indonesia)
: (1 Jun
) Our expedition leader Andi currently on location reported that the volcano's activity has been increased since 4 days ago, with visible activity consisting of mild phreatic explosions and strong steaming. ... Lees alle

Igneous or magmatic rocks
: The most primitive rock type forms when magma (molten rock) solidifies - either inside the earth (plutonic rocks) or during volcanic eruptions (volcanic rocks). A short overview.
17 days volcano trekking
: This is one of our most exciting volcano tours! Halmahera, North Sulawesi and the Sangihe Islands are not only very scenic and interesting as well as nearly unspoiled by tourism, but also home to some of the country's most active (and often erupting) volcanoes, inclduing Dukono, Ibu, Lokon, Soputan and Karangetang.
