MODIS thermal signal from Heard Island volcano (MIROVA)
MODIS thermal signal from Heard Island volcano (MIROVA)
Klyuchevskoy (Kamchatka): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: VA EMISSIONS CONTINUING OBS VA DTG:18/0520Z

Shiveluch (Kamchatka): (18 Oct) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: ERUPTION AT 20161018/0026Z FL200 EXTD E REPORTED OBS VA DTG:18/0010Z

Bulusan (Luzon Island, Philippines): New ash emissions occurred from the volcano yesterday morning at 07:36 local time. This activity follows intense degassing and a small phreatic explosion on 6 October.
The new emissions came from the new vent on the southeast slope observed last week. The resulting ash plume rose approx. 1000 m and caused light ash falls. According to PHILVOLCS, the activity is driven entirely by steam and does not involve fresh magma.
Alert level of the volcano remains at 1 with an exclusion zone of 4 km radius around the summit crater.

Bagana (Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea): (17 Oct) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: VA OBS TO FL070 EXT 35NM TO SW AT 17/2050Z.

Ulawun (New Britain, Papua New Guinea): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: MINOR VA PLUME LAST OBS TO FL090 EXT TO W AT 17/0120Z.

Dukono (Halmahera): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: CONTINUOUS VA EMISSION OBS TO FL070 EXT 95NM TO E AT 18/0610Z.

Yasur (Tanna Island, Vanuatu): (17 Oct) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Wellington (VAAC) issued the following report: CONTINUOUS LOW LEVEL ERUPTION.

Kilauea (Hawai'i): No significant changes have occurred at the volcano recently. The level of the summit lava lake rises and falls more or less along with the inflation-deflation cycles. On Saturday (15 Oct), the lava lake overflowed twice onto the Halema'uma'u crater floor before dropping again.
As of yesterday, its level was 17 m (56 ft) below the vent rim.
The 61g lava flow from Pu'u 'O'o continues to be active and feed the lava ocean entry at Kamokuna.

Colima (Western Mexico): Activity at the volcano continues but its intensity has decreased over the past week. Lava effusion into the viscous lava flow on the southern side continues (if at all) at very low rate, manifesting itself by occasional rockfalls from the thick lava flow front.
Explosions of small to moderate size at the summit vent are relatively frequent, probably destroying the recently emplaced dome.
Members of Colima University recently sampled the lava flow in order to investigate its chemical properties which might give a clue to explain the recent effusive phase of the volcano which came very suddenly and was very fast. In particular, it would be interesting to see if the new lava is different from the lavas of July last year or if it also is relatively rich in dissolved water (that help explain the fast rise of the magma column).
...18 Oct:
Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Washington (VAAC) issued the following report: NEW EMISSION AT 18/0645Z

Turrialba (Costa Rica): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Washington (VAAC) issued the following report: ONGOING EMS

Nevado del Ruiz (Colombia): Mild ash emissions continue to occur at the volcano every few days or so. Last night, the observatory reported light emissions creating a plume of a few hundred meters height.
The volcano has been in a similar state of instability for about 5 years now. Whether it will calm down or increase its activity to a new magmatic eruption is unknown. The alert level remains at Yellow (third highest) on the Colombian 4 color scale.
...18 Oct:
Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Washington (VAAC) issued the following report: VA EMS AT 17/2311Z

Heard (Australia, Southern Indian Ocean): A new eruption has been occurring at the remote volcano. It probably started in mid June and seems to be still going on.
During the past 4 months, a significant heat signal has been present and coming from the summit area of Mawson Peak, the historically active cone which forms the summit of Heard Island.
