The best place to stay on Tanna is the White Grass Ocean Resort, who also organize one-day trips to Yasur volcano. If you prefer to stay near the volcano itself, there are many cozy bungalows and home stays in the area.
We personally prefer Kelson's Jungle Oasis which is probably closest to the volcano and has a direct view of the volcano (if you are lucky to get the spectacular tree house), but there are many other good choices as well: Booking.com

Since January 2010, the activity of Yasur volcano has been increasing and the activity level has been raised from 1 to 2. Explosions are frequently throwing bombs onto the visitors' path on rim of the crater, making visits to the volcano very dangerous.

A moderately powerful explosion at Yasur volcano (26 May 2009)
During our expedition on Tanna Island, we observed Yasur during 25-29 May. Activity was a low to moderate levels in that period and only 3 vents in the western crater were active although glow from the eastern crater was seen. Near-continuous spattering was seen from the westernmost vent, and more powerful ejections from the other two vents were observed at intervals of 10-15 minutes, throwing incandescent lava bombs to 100-150 m height. Only small amounts of ash were usually produced. Lees alle
