Yasur volcano (Tanna Island, Vanuatu) activity update

Ash emission from Yasur yesterday (webcam view)Strong semi-continuous ash emissions and relatively strong strombolian explosions that eject large bombs outside the crater were reported by John Seach, a regular visitor to the volcano.
The ash falls damage vegetation near the volcano and some ash fall was reported from Erromango Island located 150 km north of Yasur. John mentions large lava bombs of 4 meters in diameter.

The volcano continues to produce very rhythmic and often intense strombolian explosions. Sometimes (see the following time-lapse video), bombs are ejected to the outer slope and land in or near the car-park area, where extreme caution should be applied. Strombolian activity has been decreasing according to GeoHazard, and the volcano could soon be placed back to alert level 1. However, bombs are still often being ejected outside the crater during larger strombolian eruptions, as the attached webcam image shows. [meer...]

Explosive (strombolian) activity level has been increasing recently, the latest bulletin of Geohazard today indicates. The alert level remains at 2, but an increase to 3 is possible in the near future. ... [meer...]

An increase in explosive activity has been noted since 2 April. Bombs have been ejected to the parking area below the summit cone, and the activity status (on a scale of 1-4) was raised from 1 to 2. If activity remains elevated, it will probably be further raised to 3 in the near future. [meer...]
