BackgroundTakahinata is a lava dome was last active about 350,000 years ago according to a fission-track date. Onikobe itself was active until about 200,00 years ago.
The caldera of Onikobe is one of the few calderas in Japan that show the classic pattern of ring fractures and a resurgent dome.
