Pacaya volcano (Guatemala) activity update
Tuesday Sep 24, 2013 17:06 PM | BY: T
INSIVUMEH reports continuing strombolian activity with explosions at intervals of 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Glowing bombs are thrown to heights of 50-100 m above the rim of the crater.
Friday, Sep 20, 2013
An increase in seismic activity has occurred gradually over the past 24 hours. Individual explosion signals have merged into strong continuous tremor. This could indicate another paroxysm with continuous explosions / lava fountaining / lava flow emission in the progress, but CONRED / INSIVUMEH have not (yet) updated on this possible increase in activity. ...
Monday, Sep 16, 2013
Strombolian activity has been gradually increasing during the past days. Frequent explosions, at intervals of about 5 minutes, eject glowing material to 50-100 m above the Mackenney crater, and ash plumes drift up to 3 km to the W and SW. The activity is visible from the capital Guatemala city. INSIVUMEH thinks that the appearance of a new lava flow is likely to occur soon.
Tuesday, Sep 10, 2013
INSIVUMEH reports continuing strombolian activity with explosions every 10 seconds, accompanied by a continuous volcanic tremor signal. Pyroclastic material is thrown to 100-150 m height.
Friday, Sep 06, 2013
Mild strombolian activity continues from the Mackenney crater. At night, incandescence can be seen.
Friday, Aug 30, 2013
Weak strombolian activity and the effusion of lava flows continues. The activity can be seen from the capital and the coast.

Eruption from close
: On 17 Oct, explosions were particularly violent at Anak Krakatau. We show a series of images of a spectacular explosion captured from close range by boat.
