Pacaya volcano (Guatemala): new strombolian activity
Sunday Feb 16, 2014 12:52 PM | BY: T
New strombolian explosions have started to occur at the Mackenney crater. This is the first eruptive activity at the summit since the paroxysm on 10 Jan which resulted in the collapse of the crater floor.
So far, the new strombolian activity has been weak, but signals the beginning of a new cycle that once again started to fill the crater again. INSIVUMEH reports about 2 explosions per hour, and ash plumes rising to about 100 m.
Thursday, Feb 06, 2014
No visible eruptive activity except degassing is being mentioned by INSIVUMEH. The seismic signal shows degassing tremor and deep-seated small explosions.
Sunday, Jan 26, 2014
The lava flow emission from the southern fissure vent has gradually decreased or even stopped during the past days. ...
Wednesday, Jan 22, 2014
While explosive activity seems to have ceased, lava effusion from the southern fissure vent at the base of the Mackenney cone continues and feeds an active flow field that expands up to 3.6 km from the vent. ...
Friday, Jan 17, 2014
The lava flow from the southern fissure vent at the base of Mackenney crater remains active, and weak strombolian activity occurs at the summit vent.
Wednesday, Jan 15, 2014
INSIVUMEH reports weak strombolian activity at the volcano's summit crater. Continuous tremor suggests that some lava effusion from the southern fissure still continues.
