Pacaya volcano (Guatemala): new activity - ash emissions
Tuesday Feb 03, 2015 17:22 PM | BY: T
Number of recorded explosions and tremor amplitude at Pacaya (INSIVUMEH)
Current tremor signal (PCG station, INSIVUMEH)
New ash emissions and explosions, up to 40 per day, have occurred last week, indicating the volcano could be heading towards a new eruptive phase of strombolian activity.
So far, the emissions were small and seem to be related to the opening of a new central crater, estimated 40-50 meters wide with unknown depth.
Elevated tremor accompanies this activity.
Thursday, Jan 15, 2015
The volcano is becoming active again. In a special bulletin yesterday, INSIVUMEH reported that ash emissions occurred from the volcano. ...
Saturday, Dec 27, 2014
INSIVUMEH reported a week ago that activity decreased and that there are currently no signs of explosive activity from the Mackenney crater. Only a steam and gas plume is being emitted.
Friday, Nov 14, 2014
It seems new strombolian explosive activity has started around 10-11 November from the Mackenney crater. ...
Tuesday, May 27, 2014
The volcano remains quiet. INSIVUMEH reports only a continuous degassing plume reaching about 50 m above the crater.
Friday, Apr 18, 2014
INSIVUMEH only reports steaming and internal tremor, but no visible eruptive activity from the Mackenney crater at the moment.
