La Palma volcano eruption 2021: 28 Sep - peak of activity

Activity remained intense throughout the day, with sustained lava fountaining from the flank vent, strong pulsating tall gas-rich fountains from the summit vents and strong lava effusion both into the new flow from the flank vent as well into the main flow, that reached the sea late at night.

The lava fountain at the lower vent reaches consistently about the same height as the elevation of the summit vents, which eject gas-rich jets: this could be explained by fluid mechanics, where the conduits of both vents are connected and both filled with magma to the rim, but the difference in hydrostatic pressure between the lower and upper pushes the liquid out from the lower vent to reach the same height as it stands in the connected upper vent. This balance seemed to have been be maintained throughout the day and most night. Gasses mainly escape in continuous jets from the upper vents, likely because they managed to separate from the liquid magma at some depth to form an own vertical conduit inside the magma column. One last shot, but a small change is announcing itself: the flank vent is loosing strength, its fountain decreased late at night, but at the same time, the fountains from the summit vents became more rich in lava again.
