La Palma volcano eruption 2021: 29 Sep - lava at the ocean

In the late evening of 28 Sep, the main lava flow made a rapid advance to reach the sea and quickly started to build a new delta of land.
At the vents, activity remained more or less the same as during the past days - vigorous liquid lava fountains from the NW flank vent as well as gas- and ash-rich lava fountains from the summit vents. A large surface lava flow from the flank vent remained active and had its front in the area of Todoque.

As the hot lava flows come in contact with sea water, lots of steam are generated, but the interaction is comparably weak (compared to ocean entries seen for example on Hawai'i), because the lava front is made of blocky, still hot, but already solidified lava that doesn't mix efficiently with the water, avoiding larger explosions this way.
