La Palma volcano eruption 2021: 1 Oct - concentric ash plumes

After the opening of a second flank vent on the NW slope of the cone during the previous evening, another effusive vent opened during the night 30 Sep-1 Oct or early on 1 Oct outside the cone, a few 100 m north of it in a depression next to it.
Besides that, activity continued without significant changes with lava fountaining from the various vents at the cone and several active lava flows.

The inversion layer higher up at the top of the Saharan air layer, at around 5300 m elevation, forces the rising hot air and ash from the eruption to spread horizontally. As the eruption intensity fluctuates in pulses, these horizontally spreading air masses form concentric waves. (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)

Zoom onto the new northern vents where two lava streams emerge from the ground. Apparently, the formation of the new vents was rather calm - there is no evidence of significant explosive activity in the farmland around it, which seems mostly unaffected. (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)

When arriving on the top of the hill, we can see that the area is not on the sea delta, which we thought might have been collapsing, and thus generating a pyroclastic flow perhaps, but from the area of banana plantations. Still, we think it might be the opening of a new eruptive fissure? (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)

Back in El Paso, we check the activity once more, looking from the north towards the cone. Several summit vents continue to produce tall fountains rich in gas and ash, the flank vents show liquid lava bubbling (but less intense than during the days before), and several parallel lava flows are active on and from the flank vents as well the one hidden in the depression north of the cone (only visible by its glow at the base of it from our viewpoint).
