Stromboli volcano - very strong activity September 2011
In August and early September 2011, Stromboli's activity was at unusually strong levels. Powerful explosions from the NE vent often sent bombs to more than 500m high, reaching Pizzo and the Bastimento viewing areas (which remained closed most of the time). Small intracrater lava flows were observed in this period as well.
