Spattering continues to feed lava flows from the fissure vent at Piton de la Fournaise volcano today (image: OVPF)
The lava spattering continues to build the cinder cone around the vent where occasionally exceeds its height.
Lava flows continue to be active on the southern slope and travel at a very slow discharge rate of about 2-5 m3/sec. on average.
The ground deformation measurements detected a slight deflation again at shallow magma chamber level (2-2,5 km) reflecting magma intrusion and migration within the volcano edifice.
The volcanic tremor continues at fluctuating levels. The seismic station detected one volcano-tectonic quake with a magnitude lower than 0.5 over the past 24 hours.
