View of Piton del la Fournaise's eruption site from Piton Bert webcam before and after the eruption (note some cones have almost disappeared under the new lava)According to the volcano observatory, the effusive phase of the eruption is over (no more activity since the sudden stop of lava effusion on Saturday). A weak tremor signal continued to be recorded this morning, probably related to degassing.
The eruption has emplaced an impressive pahoehoe (ropy) lava flow field south and southeast of Dolomieu crater (compare images from before and after the eruption).
Piton de la Fournaise volcano (La Réunion): sudden drop in tremor / lava effusion - possible end of eruption

After a the eruption had intensified considerably during the past week, tremor suddenly dropped this morning at 08:02 local time and only showed sporadic pulses. The lava effusion seemed to have stopped as well. Aerial surveys this morning showed no more lava inside the vent. ... [more]

The current, remarkably long-lived eruption continues with no signs of weakening. On the contrary, a significant increase in tremor and lava effusion was noted starting 12 Oct, reaching high values comparable to the start of the eruption. The observatory estimated the effusion rate to have risen from 9 to 13.5 cubic meters per second. ... [more]

The eruption continues with little changes overall. The lava flow field gradually expands (and thickens) towards the southeast from the vents, with the most distant flow fronts now being around 2600-2700 m away. ... [more]

The eruption continues into its second month,- for Piton de La Fournaise's standards this is an unusually long-lived one. Accompanied by stable tremor, effusive activity remains strong and feeds a growing lava flow field that slowly expands towards the east in direction of the Grandes Pentes. ... [more]

The eruption continues at weak intensity. As of yesterday, only one vent, a cone about 20 m high, remained active producing pulsating fountain-like strombolian explosions of bursting lava bubbles that reach 15-20 m height. ... [more]
