Minor volcanic unrest that had affected the volcano in the past days seems to be over.

The seismic signal suggests increased tremor and signals of possible hydrothermal explosions. An elevated SO2 concentration above the area suggests a higher level of degassing activity.

A small swarm of local earthquakes occurred at or near Poas yesterday, possibly related to or indicating small hydrovolcanic explosions.

Early Sunday morning, 29th October residents reported a rumbling sound from Poas. Then at around 13:00 (local time) the volcano ejected ash and mud 500 M above the crater. Two other eruptions took place at 16:34 and 16:44 (both local time). The eruptions were most probably phreatic. The Alert Level remains at GREEN.

OVSICORI-UNA reported that phreatic eruptions at Poás occurred on 6, 15, 20 and 26 May. The eruption on 15 May was preceded by about 6 hours of very-low amplitude harmonic tremor. Administrators of the Poás Volcano National Park witnessed the eruption and reported that sediment, water, rock fragments, and plumes were ejected 500 m above the lake surface. The level of the lake dropped ~0.9 m between 8 and 29 May.
