Poás volcano (Costa Rica): small phreatic explosions on 20 August
Thursday Aug 22, 2013 08:56 AM | BY: T
Phreatic activity at Poás on 20 Aug 2013 (OVSICORI)
A series of small phreatic eruptions occurred on 20 August at the crater lake. The first occurred at 09:55 (local time), ejecting mud and water to 2-3 m height, and a second one, more powerful, at 11:16 reached heights of 10-20 m.
Friday, May 03, 2013
A phreatic explosion occurred from the crater lake on 1 May.
Wednesday, May 01, 2013
A small earthquake swarm occurred yesterday, probably caused by fluid movements bringing heat into the crater lake. Seismicity has calmed down today again.
Saturday, Apr 20, 2013
Minor volcanic unrest that had affected the volcano in the past days seems to be over.
Wednesday, Apr 10, 2013
The seismic signal suggests increased tremor and signals of possible hydrothermal explosions. An elevated SO2 concentration above the area suggests a higher level of degassing activity.
Thursday, Mar 14, 2013
A small swarm of local earthquakes occurred at or near Poas yesterday, possibly related to or indicating small hydrovolcanic explosions.
