Raung volcano (East Java, Indonesia): continuing eruption, increased heat signal
Monday Aug 03, 2015 15:50 PM | BY: T
Heat signal from Raung volcano during the past year (MIROVA)
The eruption continues. Ash emissions have decreased, while satellite-detected heat emission increased during the past days. This could suggest that activity is now more effusive (lava flows) than explosive (ash emissions) in style.
This morning, an ash plume rose approx. 1 km above the volcano and drifted 100 km to the SW. Indonesia's Volcanological Survey VSI mentioned yesterday that seismic activity rapidly decreased. Whether this means a near ending of the eruption remains to be seen.

The eruption, now over 4 weeks old, continues with no significant changes. Strong lava effusion inside the summit caldera is accompanied by near-constant ash emissions rising 1-2 km and drifting up to 100-200 km in mostly westerly directions. ...

The eruption of the volcano continues with intense ash emissions and the effusion of lava from vents inside the caldera and shows no signs of weakening. ...
