Reventador volcano (Ecuador): frequent small explosions
Thursday Sep 19, 2013 02:52 AM | BY: T
Small ash explosion from Reventador yesterday (IGPEN webcam)
Activity remains at moderate to high levels. The volcano produces degassing, ash venting and relatively frequent small (strombolian-type) explosions that generate small ash plumes rising a few 100 m. Incandescence can be seen at night, IGPEN reported.
Video of yesterday's activity showing two small eruptions:
Monday, Sep 16, 2013
An explosion was heard last evening (but could not be observed due to cloud cover). Activity, both internal (seismic) and external, remain generally at moderate to high levels, but has been lower today. ...
Saturday, Sep 14, 2013
Activity, both internal and external, remains high, with occasional ash explosions and possibly lava effusion from the summit vent.
Saturday, Sep 07, 2013
While the other notoriously active Ecuadorian volcano, Tungurahua, has been very calm recently, eruptive activity from Reventador has increased again. Ash emissions and explosions occur more frequently and have gained in strength again, following a phase of less intense activity. ...
Saturday, Aug 17, 2013
Eruptive activity continues at moderate levels. There are occasional ash explosions with plumes of a few 100 m height and possibly minor lava effusion from the intra-caldera cone at the summit.
Thursday, Jul 25, 2013
Activity remains at high levels, characterized by small explosions and the likely effusion of lava flows. Unfortunately, near-constant cloud cover makes direct observations difficult.

Solar Eclipse & volcano tour
: A total solar eclipse will occur on 14 Dec 2020 and pass over southern Chile and Argentina. Chile's most active volcano Villarrica is located exactly on the center line where the eclipse will be best to observe.
We offer you the unique chance to combine the eclipse with a tour to one the world's most beautiful volcanic areas - the Lake District in Chile.
: Witnessing a volcanic eruption from close is an unforgettable experience. We offer a wide variety of tours and expeditions to active volcanoes worldwide.
Volcanoes in the Solar System
: The Earth is not the only place with volcanic activity. Active volcanism also occurs at at least 3 other bodies in our Solar System.
