Reventador volcano (Ecuador): frequent explosions
Monday Aug 24, 2015 08:53 AM | BY: T
Explosion at Reventador volcano this morning
The volcano's activity remains at similar levels as during the past weeks. Lava continues to be extruded from the summit crater, producing frequent small to moderate explosions. No sustained lava flow is currently active:
Monday, Aug 17, 2015
Activity at the volcano remains high, both internally (seismicity) and at the summit crater where viscous lava is being extruded. Occasional explosions and incandescent avalanches, possibly also a short lava flow result from this process.
Sunday, Jun 28, 2015
Activity at the volcano has been relatively intense during the past days with at least one active lava flow, approx. 1-1.5 km long, traveling down the SE side of the summit cone. ...
Sunday, May 24, 2015
Activity at the volcano remains at moderate to high levels, according to IGPEN. The lava flow that started on the southern flank on 19 May has not advanced any more during the past days and might be cooling. In turn, explosions have picked up a bit from the summit vent.
Wednesday, May 20, 2015
The volcano's activity remains elevated. Mild to moderate explosions occur frequently from the summit vent, where viscous lava is being extruded and also produces an active lava flow, approx. 300 m long on the southwestern flank. ...
Monday, Apr 13, 2015
Activity has been relatively intense during the past days. Frequent explosions with ash plumes of 1-2 km height and smaller pyroclastic flows have occurred from the summit vent, where a lava dome is growing.

Introduction to Plate Tectonics
: The Earth's upper, rigid layer is broken into several plates which are in constant motion to one another. Most earthquakes and volcanoes occur as result of these plate boundaries.
