Rincon de la Vieja volcano (Costa Rica): ongoing phreatic activity

Explosive eruption of the volcano continues characterized by phreatic-type (or hydrothermal) explosions at regular intervals of 1 to 2 per day.

On 6 October at 08:22 local time OVSICORI-UNA recorded an explosion producing gas-steam plume that rose 1,640 ft (500 m) above the summit crater.
No ash fall was reported.
