Background
Aoso volcano is an andesitic-to-dacitic stratovolcano at the SE end of the Zao massif. Aoso-yama was active about 0.4-0.3 million years ago (Nakano et al., 2001-). Aoso was constructed within a Pleistocene caldera.---
