Moderate yet deep earthquake of magnitude 5.0 reported 119 km northwest of Nuku‘alofa, Tonga

Just 31 minutes ago, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Nuku‘alofa, Tonga. The tremor was recorded early morning on Thursday 26 November 2020 at 3.25 am local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 204 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) at magnitude 5.0, and European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nuku‘alofa (pop. 22,400) located 119 km from the epicenter, Haveluloto (pop. 3,400) 119 km away, and Vaini (pop. 3,000) 125 km away.
