The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in U.S. Virgin Islands near Charlotte Amalie only 16 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday 26 November 2020 at 3.07 am local time at a shallow depth of 29 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Charlotte Amalie (pop. 20,000) located 109 km from the epicenter, and Cruz Bay (pop. 2,700) 115 km away.
