A magnitude 5.1 earthquake near Serang, Banten, Indonesia, was reported only 9 minutes ago by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 49 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Friday 26 February 2021 at 2:45 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Labuan (pop. 33,600) located 50 km from the epicenter, Pandeglang (pop. 92,300) 75 km away, Rangkasbitung (pop. 126,900) 84 km away, Serang (pop. 164,800) 95 km away, and Curug (pop. 191,400) 118 km away.
