How did you become a volcanologist?

There are many ways to become a volcanologist, but most volcanologist have gone a more or similar way as for example Tom: "I've always been fascinated by nature's forces. ... I was studying geology until one day I found myself on the top of Stromboli volcano and watched the nightly spectacle of its eruptions. A captivating sight that left me deeply impressed. I was hooked to the subject... Eventually, I gradutated from university with a Masters degree in geolgoy, dealing with a large eruption on Santorini in Greece. Also, I started to travel and visited many volcanoe in the world, attended conferences and workshopy about volcanoes. There you meet many other volcanologists. After the Masters'degree, I continued school persuing a phd degree in volcanology. The whole time at university was about 10 years... This is how I became a volcanologist".
