Iceland Met Office (IMO) reported that an intense seismic swarm began at Katla at 0941 on 4 May with three earthquakes larger than M 4 occurring beneath the caldera within about 10 minutes. The Aviation Color Code was raised to Yellow, the second lowest level on a four-color scale. Earthquakes under Katla volcano during the past 48 hours

An earthquake swarm started under the glacier-covered Katla volcano this morning, including 3 quakes of magnitudes from 4.4-4.8 in an area 7-8 km east of the Goðabunga peak. So far, 29 tremors have been detected under the volcano's Myrdalsjokull glacier during the past 48 hours. Read all
