Santiaguito volcano (Guatemala): pyroclastic flows continue

The activity of the volcano has remained essentially unchanged at elevated levels during the past weeks.

INSIVUMEH reported that block-and-ash flows continue to descend over the western slopes of the Caliente dome and eastern slopes, sometimes phoenix clouds are formed.
A weak to moderate explosions are generated which reached approx. 10,826-11,811 ft (3,300-3,600 m) altitude and extending about 10-12 km of the volcano.

INSIVUMEH reported that during 29 July-4 August explosions at Santa María's Santiaguito lava-dome complex generated ash plumes that rose 900 m above the crater and drifted as far as 1 km W and SW. Avalanches of blocks descended the SE, S, and SW flanks of Caliente cone; some reached the base of the cone and were sometimes accompanied by small pyroclastic flows.
